AN ISLAND, AN OLIVE OIL, A STORY

P9050239_edited_edited.jpg

THIS IS A STORY

of a family that preserves a centuries-old heritage linked to the land and the cultivation of two great passions: the olive tree and the vine.

FEUDI DI SAN GIULIANO was born from the ancient agricultural tradition of the Spanò family, Barons of San Giuliano. The family archives show that the Spanò family has been cultivating vines since 1624.

However, alongside viticulture, the family has for centuries kept the secret of the olive oil production, which was not intended for sale, but only for its own use and that of its closest friends.

This same olive oil can now be enjoyed by gourmet enthusiasts around the world.

ONE GENERATION AFTER THE OTHER

For more than 400 years, each generation has been able to face the challenges of agricultural evolution in Sicily without fear of experimenting and innovating.

At the end of 1960, Baron Michele and his father-in-law Guido Anca Martinez, wine industrialist and founder of the Regional Institute for Vine and Wine, experimented with viticulture in areas far from traditional wine-growing areas, planting the former Feudi di Mazzaporro and della Duchessa in the Municipality of Contessa Entellina.

Generation after generation, the torch is now in the hands of Nicola and Guido Spanò di San Giuliano, who, following in the footsteps of their father Michele and mother Giovanna, work side by side to preserve and develop the family's agricultural heritage. Consolata, Guido's wife collaborates with Nicola and Guido, bringing her passion for the farm and her experience as an agronomist.

"I think of our family tree as a vigorous olive tree well rooted in the land of Sicily."
